What I Learned About Leadership, Horses, and Tradition at Diamond Cross Ranch

Spending three full days in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, filming at Diamond Cross Ranch wasn’t just a shoot — it was a turning point. I had the privilege of working alongside my friend, renowned horse trainer and leadership coach Grant Golliher. What unfolded on that trip didn’t just shape a film. It shaped my Western brand and the way I see storytelling.

A Masterclass in More Than Horse Training

If you’ve ever seen Grant work with horses, you know it’s not just training — it’s a conversation. At Diamond Cross Ranch, Grant uses timeless principles of horsemanship to teach people how to lead with empathy, patience, and presence. Watching him train horses was powerful. But what struck me even more was how those same techniques apply to people.

“You don’t train with force — you lead with feel.”
— Grant Golliher

His book, Think Like a Horse, dives deep into these lessons. I can’t recommend it enough.

A Defining Project for My Western Identity

Filming this experience helped clarify something I’d been feeling for a while — Western is my brand. After releasing the short documentary on my YouTube channel, the response was incredible. Viewers connected not just with the visuals, but with the message of humility, growth, and grit.

That kind of storytelling — grounded in the dirt, sweat, and truth of the Western way — is what I want to keep creating.

The Lesson I Didn’t Expect

One of the biggest takeaways from my time at Diamond Cross Ranch was this:

Just because something is a tradition doesn’t mean it’s right.

That hit me hard. In the Western world, we hold tightly to tradition — and rightly so. But Grant showed me that real growth comes from being open to new ways of doing things. Sometimes the most respectful thing you can do for tradition is to evolve it.
